Henry’s family recollections

“My mum was beautiful and loving.” Henry remembers how much Christine valued her career. He recalls that she and Stuart wanted to earn as much as they could so they could go on nice holidays and send him to private school.

Henry remembers that his mum trained as a nurse, travelled the world as an air stewardess and then returned to nursing. He tentatively places her training in the mid-1960s, her flying years in the late 1960s or early 1970s, and her return to nursing around 1972. The tree dates her training at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle to 1968–1971. The dates of the job changes are still open. Henry remembers that her nursing jobs included ear, nose and throat (ENT) work and that she later worked as a health visitor. He is unsure of the dates.

Chris and Stuart met in Hexham at the wedding of David McDonald, Henry’s godfather. David and Chris had been friends since childhood. Their fathers worked together in the police, and the two families were close. The family photograph of Chris and Stuart at Hadrian’s Wall was taken the day after David’s wedding.
